70th Anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising
This year, we will be commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Uprising both in Poland and abroad.
First of August is, for Varsovians as for all Poles and members of the Polish Diaspora worldwide, a symbol of the fight for freedom, as well as a day of remembrance for these historical breakthroughs.
Seventy years ago, Poles gathered in the underground state, along with the civilian population, began the deathly battle to win back Warsaw. For 63 days, they fought both to free the capital from German occupation, and to win freedom for the entire country. The memory of these events, and above all the people who took part in them, have remained ingrained in the minds of Polish diaspora the world over.
